The Hornet 3D model is the replica of spaceship from a relatively new  video game, but which has already managed to make a large fan base. The creator of the video game relies on the support of the gamers, inviting them to witness the development of a fictional Universe from start to end.

The creator promises that the video game will be more than a space combat, a first-person shooter, inviting all those who are willing to explore the new Universe to join at the early stages of the development.

Hornet 3D model is the replica of the combat spaceship from the video game. Maybe this spaceship does not have a legendary status among gamers, but its design will make even the most skeptical ones to pay closer attention. The in-game prototype is a large spaceship, being 23 meters long and weighing about 22,000 kg. The spaceship is maneuvered by a single crew member.

The Hornet 3D model replicates accurately the design of the in-game prototype. The modeler wanted to show the power and the force of this relatively small, but multi-purpose fighter.

The 3d video game model is created in Autodesk Maya modeling program. Special attention was given to the outer shell details of the ship. The STL files are checked and corrected in Netfabb and can be easily handled in any slicing program. 

All 3D model’s parts are solid, which means that the 3D printing of the spaceship will go effortlessly.

Hornet 3D model consists of 48 parts. After having it 3D printed and assembled, the 3D model ship will stand 530mm wide, 200mm tall, and 540mm deep.

The 3D model of the spaceship is provided with landing gear and a support base, so you can choose the way you want to display it.

This model was tested in Cura 15.06. To avoid printing problems, we recommend the following settings:

Quality

  • Layer height: 0.1mm*
  • Initial layer thickness: 0.3mm
  • Bottom/top pattern: lines
  • Skin perimeter line count: 0
  • Horizontal expansion: 0.04mm (when entering 0.04mm index, the 3D printer perceives the model as monolith, i.e. as having no hidden layers).

*Layer Height 0.1mm is recommended for a better quality for the printed model. However, the printing time will double.

As a STL file provider, our goal is to ensure that the files are error-free and printable in the most accurate way. This is why we only test print the most difficult segments of the model’s parts.

The model's parts have been tested and printed in PLA. In case you need advice where to get your filaments from, check our partner's website.

  • X/Y distance: 0.7mm
  • Top distance: 0.2mm
  • Bottom distance: 0.2mm
  • Stair step height: 0.5mm
  • Join distance: 0.7mm
  • Area smoothing: 0.6mm
  • Use towers: check
  • Pattern: Grid
  • Line distance: 1.5mm

Platform adhesion:

  • Type: Brim
  • Brim line count: 10 (up to 20, depending on the model’s height)

Other 3D printing recommendations:

Outer Shell Speed - 20mm/s and Support Speed - 40mm/s settings apply to avoid model deformation.  Apply other settings by default.

Disclaimer: This model will look outstanding if printed on SLA/SLS 3D printer. The accuracy of the model printed on FFF printer can vary from the result shown in the pictures.
