ABOUT THIS 3D MODEL

"Roger, roger."

B1 Battle Droid, also known as Standard Battle Droid or simply Clanker, is a crucial member of the Separatist/CIS army and a brilliant comic relief of the Star Wars prequel trilogy. Designed to resemble their Geonosian creators, Battle Droids proved to be absolutely ineffective alone but could be deadly in large numbers. The humanoid robots are dim-witted, extremely fragile, and have little tactical intelligence but are very cheap to produce so the decision was reached to create millions of droid copies to overwhelm the enemy not in power but through sheer numbers. Our contributing 3D artist was taken by the idea of creating the backbone of the Confederate fighting force for 3D printing and spent 95 hours working on a B1 Battle Droid model. The Clanker for 3D printing has the unit’s trademark elongated face and a pair of specialized movement processors in the back of the head. The author of the model made sure to equip the Droid with the unit’s standardized E-5 blaster rifle and a backpack device that is known to be needed for power augmentation in order for the droids to operate in the field without recharge for a longer period of time. There is also a pair of long signal reception booster antennas extending from the backpack of a 3D printing robot that can be optionally displayed alone on the droid’s back. B1 Battle Droids might be the easily controlled mindless soldiers but some personality quirks revealed by “programming glitches” made the unit well-loved among Star Wars fans. 3D print your own Droid legion - the STL files are waiting for you to download!

ADAPTATION FOR 3D PRINTING

B1 Battle Droid model for 3D printing is a highly articulated assembly model and its moderation and adaptation for different types of 3D printers took Gambody team 39 hours in total. In order to ensure the robot’s multidirectional movement, it was divided into many assembly parts and special mechanisms were introduced into all model’s joints to give you an opportunity to display B1 Battle Droid in a variety of positions, i.e. droid’s head, neck, shoulder, elbow, wrist, finger, hip, knee and ankle are movable and the droid’s pelvis is equipped with the ball-and-claw joint. For the articulated robot to stand firm in any position you may choose, most of the joints are provided with locking mechanisms. Droid’s back can be optionally displayed with antennas or backpack+antennas and the E-5 blaster rifle can be placed into Droid’s hands as you prefer by folding the fingers. All assembly parts are provided in STL files in recommended positions that were worked out in order to ensure the smoothness of the details’ surfaces after printing and so that the 3D printing beginners won't face difficulties when placing the parts on a build plate. The model’s assembly in FFF/FDM 1.0 version requires additional “pins” to secure the parts. These pins do not come in STL files but can be made out of short pieces of regular 1.75 PLA. We highly recommend that you watch "Assembly video" in the photo preview section before assembling the Droid. When downloading any model's file you will also receive "Assembly Manual" for FFF/FDM 1.0 and DLP/SLA 1.0 versions in PDF format.

The model is saved in STL files, a format supported by most 3D printers. All STL files for 3D printing have been checked in Netfabb and no errors were shown.

The model's scale was calculated from B1 Battle Droid's actual height that is 1930 mm. The 3D printing model's chosen scale is 1/8 for the FFF/FDM version and 1/16 for the DLP/SLA/SLS versions.

VERSION SPECIFICATIONS

FFF/FDM 1.0 version features:
- Contains 45 parts;
- A printed model is 248 mm tall, 62 mm wide, 78 mm deep;
- Each robot’s joint (head, neck, shoulder, elbow, wrist, finger, pelvis, hip, kneeankle) is articulated which allows the model's multidirectional movement;
- This version's assembly requires additional “pins” to secure the parts. These pins do not come in STL files but can be made out of short pieces of regular 1.75 PLA;
- Droid’s back can be optionally displayed with antennas or backpack+antennas;
- You can put the E-5 blaster rifle into Droid’s hands as you prefer by folding the fingers;
- All parts are divided in such a way that you will print them with the smallest number of support structures.

DLP/SLA 1.0 version features:
- Contains 12 parts;
- A printed model is 124 mm tall, 31 mm wide, 39 mm deep;
- Comprises parts for you to assemble Droid either in an action pose or in a static pose holding an E-5 blaster rifle;
- Can be displayed with or without backpack+antennas;
- All parts are divided in such a way to fit the build plates and to ensure that support structures are generated where needed.

SLS 1.0 version features:
- Made as a solid one-piece figurine;
- A printed model is 124 mm tall, 31 mm wide, 39 mm deep;
- Contains 4 parts - solid models in an action pose with and without backpack+antennas; solid models in a static pose holding an E-5 blaster rifle with and without backpack+antennas.
