ABOUT THIS 3D MODEL

BTL-A4 Y-wing assault starfighter-bomber simply referred to as Y-wing, is the remarkable asset to the Rebel Alliance space combat fleet and a prominent representative of spacecraft of the Star Wars franchise. Being a well-known space opera fan, our contributing 3D artist spent circa 150 hours and came up with yet another great creation and presented his stunning version of BTL-A4 Y-wing starfighter for 3D printing. The model boasts of the spectacular level of detail, carrying heavy laser cannons, Koensayr hyperdrive and jet engines, impressive support and engine pylons and even a rotating cannon turret! The author of the model did his best to make sure that you’ll receive a great Y-wing Starfighter that is interesting to print, assemble and paint. Thus, the 3D printing Y-wing model is equipped with a highly-detailed cockpit that can be accessed through the opening canopy. Moreover, there is a socket to fit a navigating astromech droid located behind the cockpit and the 3D printing model comes with a tiny R2-D2 to occupy the slot! There is also a box and a barrel in the star fighter’s assembly kit that you can print as many times as you prefer in order to recreate the fan-loved docking bay scenes from Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. Being a combination of a starfighter and a light bomber, Y-wing impresses with its devastating firepower and definitely a one-of-a-kind design. We are absolutely sure that Y-wing Starfighter is the perfect gem in your 3D printed Star Wars fleet that has been missing!

ADAPTATION FOR 3D PRINTING

Y-wing Starfighter model for 3D printing is a static assembly model and its moderation and adaptation for different types of 3D printers took Gambody team 34 hours in total. For you to receive the cleanest printing result possible and to minimize the amount of filament needed for generated support the starfighter model was divided into many assembly parts, e.g. its support pylons, engine pylons, heavy-ion jet turbines, retractable landing gear, ejection seat, astromech droid, Koensayr hyperdrive, ion cannon turret, various pipes, etc. are provided as separate STL files. The windows on the canopy are also provided as eight separate files for you to print them using transparent filament or access the highly detailed interior of a single-pilot cockpit. There can also be found special tunnels throughout the body of the Y-wing Starfighter that were designed by our team for you to easily introduce LED wiring for illumination of the cockpit and exhaust nozzles. For you to display the Y-wing model among your spaceship collection there is a stand provided, though its usage is optional - you can also assemble the fighter with extractable landing gear that can otherwise be concealed with caps. All assembly parts are provided in STL files in recommended positions that were worked out in order to ensure the smoothness of the details’ surfaces after printing and that the 3D printing beginners won't face difficulties when placing the parts on a build plate. When downloading any model's file you will also receive "Assembly Manual" for FFF/FDM 1.0 and DLP/SLA/SLS 1.0 versions in PDF format.

The model is saved in STL files, a format supported by most 3D printers. All STL files for 3D printing have been checked in Netfabb and no errors were shown.

The model's scale was calculated from the actual length of Y-wing Starfighter that is 23400 mm. The 3D printing model's chosen scale is 1/34 for the FFF/FDM version and 1/68 for the DLP/SLA/SLS version.

FAQ:

Generic

Below you can find printing recommendations for CuraSimplify3D and Slic3r software.

Cura printing recommendations:

These are basic settings that were tested in Cura 4.8.0 slicer.

The test models were printed on Ultimaker 2, Creality Ender 3, Creality CR-10S Pro V2, Anycubic I3 Mega, Anycubic I3 MegaS 3D printers with PLA and PETG filaments.

Disclaimer: The following printing settings are a recommendation, not an obligation. The parameters can vary depending on the peculiarities of your 3D printer, the material you use and especially the particular assembly part at hand. Each part that any model comprises often needs preliminary review and you are free to tweak the settings the way you find suitable.

Note:
- You can scale up the model (downscaling is not recommended!);
- All connectors should be printed at 100% Infill;
- For all parts of locks (“ge_lock” in “Source files”) you need to change "Brim" type to "Skirt" in Build Plate Adhesion section.
