Till All Are One!
Introducing Super Optimus, a custom-designed, fully transforming 3D-printable figure inspired by the classic Transformers G1, Armada, and Powermaster generations!
Part of my original Energy Series, Super Optimus combines old-school transforming toy engineering with modern 3D-printing technology.
This project was designed from the ground up with functional articulation, ratchet joints, mechanical transformation, and detailed armor components. Every section was developed to create a physical transforming figure rather than just a display model.
Features
- Fully transforming robot and vehicle configurations
- Custom Super Mode transformation
- Classic G1, Armada, and Powermaster-inspired design
- Articulated arms, legs, and mechanical joints
- Functional ratchet joints and rotating assemblies
- Detailed mechanical armor and vehicle components
- Separate printable parts for multicolor assembly
- Designed for FDM 3D printing
- No electronics, motors, batteries, or wiring required!
Recommended Printing Settings
IMPORTANT: ALL PARTS MUST BE PRINTED AT 30% INFILL.

Materials and Hardware Needed
This figure uses a straightforward mechanical assembly system.
Required materials:
- 3D-printed components
- 1.75 mm filament pieces used as connecting pins
- One paperclip used as a metal pin
- Small metric screws for securing designated components
- PETG filament in your preferred colors
Recommended tools:
- Flush cutters
- Needle-nose pliers
- Small screwdriver set
- Hobby knife
- Sandpaper or small precision files
- Small drill bits for cleaning pin holes if necessary
NO WIRING OR ELECTRONICS REQUIRED!
There is no soldering, electrical work, or motor installation involved. Super Optimus is entirely mechanical and transforms by hand.
Assembly Instructions
Super Optimus consists of multiple individually printed components that must be assembled carefully.
- Print all required components at 30% infill.
- Remove supports and clean the printed parts.
- Prepare your filament pins by cutting them to the lengths needed during assembly.
- Install the designated paperclip pin where required.
- Secure the necessary components using small metric screws.
- Assemble the mechanical joints, hinges, and ratchet mechanisms.
- Test all moving parts before completing the final assembly.
- Follow the assembly video for guidance.
Important: Do not force tight joints. Depending on your printer's tolerances, minor sanding or adjustments may be necessary.
Avoid gluing any parts intended to rotate, slide, or transform.
Transformation
Super Optimus features a mechanical transformation system inspired by classic transforming robot toys.
The design uses rotating sections, hinges, articulated components, and locking positions to transition between configurations.
Always transform the figure carefully, especially during the first few transformations.
For a demonstration of the complete transformation, watch the video linked below.
Important Information
- Digital 3D-printing files only. No physical figure is included.
- Requires an FDM 3D printer and assembly.
- 30% infill is required for all printed parts.
- PETG is the recommended printing material.
- Uses filament pins, one paperclip pin, and small metric screws.
- No wiring, batteries, motors, or electronics are required.
- Some parts may require minor fitting or sanding.
- Intended for hobbyists and collectors familiar with assembling 3D-printed models.
- Small parts may present a choking hazard.
About the Energy Series
The Energy Series is my collection of custom 3D-printable transforming robot designs, combining the spirit of classic transforming toys with modern mechanical design and 3D printing.
My goal is to create figures that aren't just visually impressive but are also functional, poseable, and genuinely transformable.
Thank you for supporting my work and the CybertronianMaker project!
