Kara Zor-El was sent to Earth from Krypton at age 13 by her parents Zor-El and Alura. Krypton was exploding, and Kara's parents sent Kara in a spaceship to Earth behind her cousin. Kara was meant to protect her baby cousin Kal-El, but her spaceship was diverted and forced to enter the Ghost Zone, where it remained for 24 years. By the time the spacecraft landed on Earth, Kal-El had grown up to become Superman. The series begins once years later, when 24-year-old Kara is learning to embrace her powers and has adopted the alias "Supergirl."
