"Here I am, brain the size of a planet, and they tell me to take you up to the bridge. Call that job satisfaction? 'Cos I don't."

Marvin The Paranoid Android is an infinitely depressed and bored robot who had the bad luck to become a reluctant crew member of the Heart of Gold starship. There is a Genuine People Personality software installed in Marvin that allows the droid sentience, emotions and incredible intelligence. Sadly, there is hardly any task that could meet Marvin’s match!

Overjoyed at the sci-fi comedy by Douglas Adams, our contributing 3D artist got enthusiastic over the idea of modelling the saddest robot in the universe for 3D printing. The author’s Marvin The Paranoid Android model is inspired by the 2005 film and represents a short bulky robot with a large spherical head and a pair of triangle eyes for a face. The 3D printing Marvin model stands on a copy of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy that has “DON’T PANIC” written on its spine, a “42” bookmark, and the fragment of the franchise’s logo on its cover. You might be still looking for the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything, or you might already know it, the 3D printed Marvin The Paranoid Android will look marvellous on your display shelf!

Marvin The Paranoid Android for 3D printing is an active assembly model and its moderation and adaptation for different types of 3D printers took the Gambody team 38 hours in total. For you to receive the cleanest 3D printing result possible, to minimize the amount of filament needed for generated support, and to allow Marvin’s multidirectional movement, the robot model was divided into many assembly parts and special articulated mechanisms were introduced into most joints (see the photo preview section).

All assembly parts are provided in STL files in recommended positions that were worked out in order to ensure the smoothness of the details’ surfaces after printing and that the 3D printing beginners won't face difficulties when placing the parts on a build plate. When downloading any model's file you will also receive "Assembly Manual" for FFF/FDM 1.0 and DLP/SLA/SLS 1.0 versions in PDF format. We highly recommend that you get acquainted with the “Assembly video” and "Assembly Manual" before getting down to Marvin The Paranoid Android model.

The model is saved in STL files, a format supported by most 3D printers. All STL files for 3D printing have been checked in Netfabb and no errors were shown.

The model's scale was calculated from the actual height of Marvin The Paranoid Android which is 1500 mm. The 3D printing model's chosen scale is 1:8 for the FFF/FDM version and 1:16 for the DLP/SLA/SLS version.

FFF/FDM 1.0 version features:
- Contains 48 parts;
- A printed ship is 213 mm tall, 153 mm wide, 164 mm deep;
- There are special mechanisms in Marvin's head, shoulders, elbows, and hips that ensure excellent articulation;
- Robot's eyes come as separate assembly parts to be printed in transparent material;
Marvin's head is made hollow for you to introduce LED wiring and light up the eyes.
- The Paranoid Android stands on The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy base that has a "42" bookmark, a fragment of a logo on the cover and "DON'T PANIC!" on its spine;
- All parts are divided in such a way that you will print them with the smallest number of support structures.

DLP/SLA/SLS 1.0 version features:
- Contains 10 parts;
- A printed ship is 106 mm tall, 77 mm wide, 82 mm deep;
- Robot's assembly allows rotation of the head, shoulder, and hip joints;
- The Paranoid Android stands on The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy base that has a "42" bookmark, a fragment of a logo on the cover and "DON'T PANIC!" on its spine;
- All parts are divided in such a way to fit the build plates and to ensure that support structures are generated where needed.

You can get the model of Marvin The Paranoid Android for 3D Printing immediately after the purchase! Just click the green Buy button in the top-right corner of the model’s page. You can pay with PayPal or your credit card.

Below you can find printing recommendations for CuraSimplify3D and Slic3r software.

Cura printing recommendations:

These are basic settings that were tested in Cura 4.8.0 slicer.

The test models were printed on Ultimaker 2, Creality Ender 3, Creality CR-10S Pro V2, Anycubic I3 Mega, Anycubic I3 MegaS 3D printers with PLA and PETG filaments.

Disclaimer: The following printing settings are a recommendation, not an obligation. The parameters can vary depending on the peculiarities of your 3D printer, the material you use and especially the particular assembly part at hand. Each part that any model comprises often needs preliminary review and you are free to tweak the settings the way you find suitable.

- You can scale up the model (downscaling is not recommended!);
- All connectors should be printed at 100% Infill;
- For all parts of locks (“ge_lock” in “Source files”) you need to change "Brim" type to "Skirt" in Build Plate Adhesion section.
