ABOUT THIS 3D MODEL
Patrol Boat 31 Mk II, also known as PBR or Riverine, is a versatile US “Brown Water” Navy patrol boat that was widely deployed in the Vietnam War from 1966 through 1971. The speedy waterborne patrol vessel is known to have played a crucial role not only in patrolling the massive waterways to prevent weapon shipment but also engaged in forces’ transportation and firefights with land-based units. PBR is well-known and loved among the model kits enthusiasts and appears in the horror Apocalypse Now where it becomes a symbol of the characters' isolation and moral confusion.
The author of the Apocalypse Now boat for 3D printing was inspired by the Mark II version of the US rigid-hulled war boat shown in the horror movie and came up with an incredible 3D printing project to rejoice hobbyists all around the world. With so much history around it, a model of PBR31 Mk II can become a unique item in any collection of 3D-printed models.
ADAPTATION FOR 3D PRINTING
Patrol Boat 31 Mk 2 3D printing design is a static assembly model and its moderation and adaptation for different types of 3D printers took the Gambody team 94 hours in total.
For you to receive the cleanest 3D printing result possible, minimize the amount of filament needed for generated support, and make use of the active elements designed by Gambody Engineers, the boat was divided into convenient assembly parts.
All assembly parts in the 1.1 FFF/FDM version are provided in STL files in recommended positions that were worked out in order to ensure the smoothness of the details’ surfaces after printing and that the 3D printing beginners won’t face difficulties when placing the parts on a build plate. When downloading any model’s file you will also receive “Assembly Manual” for 1.1 FFF/FDM and 1.1 DLP/SLA versions in PDF and video formats. We highly recommend that you get acquainted with the “Assembly Video” and “Assembly Manual” before getting down to the Patrol Boat 31 Mk 2 3D model.
The design is saved in STL files, a format supported by most 3D printers. All STL files for 3D printing have been checked in Netfabb and no errors were shown.
The 3D model’s scale was calculated from the length of the Patrol Boat 31 Mk 2 that is 9800 mm. The 3D printer design’s chosen scales are 1:30 for the FFF/FDM version, and 1:60 for the DLP/SLA version.
