3D model history

The Flying Sub, officially designated FS-1, soared into popular culture in Irwin Allen's classic 1960s TV series Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. Introduced in Season 2, this lemon-yellow, manta-ray-shaped sci-fi submarine broke new ground as a true hybrid vehicle, capable of diving to ocean depths and then rocketing through the atmosphere at supersonic speeds. With its transparent dome cockpit, tricycle landing gear, and retractable probe, the Flying Submarine became an unforgettable symbol of retro sci-fiinnovation and heroic undersea exploration.

The Flying Sub 3D print model faithfully recreates every iconic detail in high-resolution Flying Sub STL files. The ship's removable top hatch provides cockpit access, and the functional rear hatch opens for mission play. You can display the futuristic submarine on its landing gear—with rotating wheels—or on one of two included display platforms, with or without a nameplate. This 3D printable sci-fi sub brings Irwin Allen's vision to your desk, combining authenticity and engineering precision in one standout TV series vehicle 3D model.

  • Optimized part division minimizes support material and ensures smooth surface detail;
  • The assembly parts in the FFF/FDM version come in the recommended print orientations for easy bed placement;

  • The model is available in recommended scales of 1:32 for the FFF/FDM version and 1:64 for the DLP/SLA version, based on the 15-meter length of the Flying Sub.

Important

To avoid printing issues and achieve the best quality, we highly recommend applying the following settings:

Generic

Below you can find printing recommendations for Cura, Bambu Studio, Simplify3D, Slic3r and PrusaSlicer software.

Disclaimer: The following printing settings are a recommendation, not an obligation. The parameters can vary depending on the peculiarities of your 3D printer, the material you use, and especially the particular assembly part you are working with. Each part that any model comprises often needs preliminary review, and you are free to tweak the settings the way you find suitable.

Note:

You can scale up the model (downscaling for FFF/FDM 3D printers is not recommended!);

All connectors should be printed at 100% Infill.

Bambu Lab printing recommendations:

These basic 3D printing settings recommendations for beginners were tested in Bambu Studio 1.9.1. Test models were printed on the Bambu Lab A1, Bambu Lab A1 Mini, Creality Ender 3 S1, Anycubic Kobra 2, and Anycubic Vyper using PLA and PETG filaments.

These are averaged settings which were tested in the Cura 5.2.1 slicer. Test models were printed on Anycubic Vyper, Creality Ender 3 Pro with PLA filament.
