The life cycle of the Xenomorph species is a complex and absolutely terrifying process that involves several basic stages and a burst chest of an at least one innocent victim. It all starts with an Ovomorph, colloquially known as the Egg, that is able to sense the slightest movements and vibrations in order to catch the perfect timing for the awakening of the Facehugger inside. Once alerted, the Facehugger jumps out of its incubation capsule onto the victim's face to implant a Chestbuster via the mouth, hence turning the victim into an alien host. The 3D artist behind the spectacular Facehugger & Egg figurine for 3D printing spent circa 115 hours in order to capture the spine-chilling hatching scene. Something must have disturbed the Ovomorph or it might have scented a potential host since the figurine depicts the Egg sprung open with the activated Facehugger ready for attack. One look at the extraterrestrial 3D printing model is enough to notice the fantastic level of detail that the efforts of the talented 3D artist resulted in. The leathery surface of the 3D printing Egg is adorned with an intricate network of veins. The four "petals" at the top of the Ovomorph are open to reveal the deadly inhabitant who stealthily crawls out of its incubation chamber. The appearance of the Facehugger leaves no doubts about the lethal capabilities of the Xenomorph’s parasitoid form. Eight long and extremely strong digits of the 3D printing Facehugger are slightly bent as if stretching out in search of a victim to launch at. The author of the figurine paid extra attention to capturing the anatomy of the creature’s body for its air sacs and implantation orifice to look this realistic. While the spine-like tail of the parasite is still partially concealed inside the Egg, its visible part does justice to the serpentine nature of the monster. They say, once secured on the host’s face, it is impossible to remove the Facehugger without killing the victim. While the "Stage 1" Xenomorph does sound like a tough nut, we know a reliable way how to tame the beast - you can 3D print it!


Facehugger & Egg figurine for 3D printing is a static assembly model and its moderation and adaptation for different types of 3D printers took Gambody team 40 hours in total. The anatomy of the Facehugger and the structure of the Egg were thoroughly reviewed during the moderation process for the Stage 1 Xenomorph to be depicted as realistic as possible. The model’s cutting was chosen by our team to minimize the amount of filament needed for generated support and some of the parts were hollowed out for you to save resin in the figurine’s Eco version. In order to conceal the places where the assembly parts of the model must be connected and for you to achieve the cleanest 3D printed result, each of the alien’s eight long, finger-like legs was carefully separated. For the same purpose, the tail of Facehugger was cut into three parts along the contour of its spine segments. The Ovomorph was divided into as many assembly parts as needed to fit the build plates of average 3D printer and for you to nevertheless receive a huge 3D printed alien egg after assembly. All the assembly parts come in STL files in recommended positions that were worked out in order to ensure the smoothness of the details’ surfaces after printing and so that the 3D printing beginners won't face difficulties when placing the parts on a build plate. When downloading any figurine's file you will also receive "Assembly Manual" for FFF/FDM 1.0 and DLP/SLA 1.0 versions in PDF format.

The figurine is saved in STL files, a format supported by most 3D printers. All STL files for 3D printing have been checked in Netfabb and no errors were shown.

The model's scale was calculated from the actual height of the Ovomorph which is 1000 mm. The 3D printing figurine's chosen scale is 1/2 for the FFF/FDM version and 1/4 for the DLP/SLA/SLS versions.


FFF/FDM 1.0 version features:
- Contains 27 parts;
- A printed model is 420 mm tall, 289 mm wide, 367 mm deep;
- Assembly kit includes lock 27_ge_lock_10H(x31) to attach the model's parts securely without glue that needs to be printed 31 times;
- The Egg is scaled and its dimensions were calculated from the actual size of the movie Ovomorph;
- All parts are divided in such a way that you will print them with the smallest number of support structures.

DLP/SLA 1.0 version features:
- Contains 9 parts;
- A printed model is 210 mm tall, 145 mm wide, 184 mm deep;
- The Egg is scaled and its dimensions were calculated from the actual size of the movie Ovomorph;
- All parts are divided in such a way to fit the build plates and to ensure that support structures are generated where needed.

DLP/SLA Eco 1.0 version features:
- Contains 8 parts;
- A printed model is 210 mm tall, 145 mm wide, 184 mm deep;
- The Egg is scaled and its dimensions were calculated from the actual size of the movie Ovomorph;
- Contains some hollowed out parts to save resin.

SLS 1.0 version features:
- Contains 1 part;
- A printed model is 210 mm tall, 145 mm wide, 184 mm deep;
- Made as a solid one-piece figurine.

Cura printing recommendations:

These are basic settings that were tested in Cura 4.8.0 slicer. 

The test models were printed on Ultimaker 2, Creality Ender 3, Creality CR-10S Pro V2, Anycubic I3 Mega, Anycubic I3 MegaS 3D printers with PLA and PETG filaments.

Disclaimer: The following printing settings are a recommendation, not an obligation. The parameters can vary depending on the peculiarities of your 3D printer, the material you use and especially the particular assembly part at hand. Each part that any model comprises often needs preliminary review and you are free to tweak the settings the way you find suitable.

- You can scale up the model (downscaling is not recommended!);
- All connectors should be printed at 100% Infill;
- For all parts of locks (“ge_lock” in “Source files”) you need to change "Brim" type to "Skirt" in Build Plate Adhesion section.
