ABOUT THIS 3D FIGURINE

The science-fiction horror film Alien (1979) became a landmark in the history of cinema, engraving itself into the worldwide pop culture for decades to come. The movie’s classical plot and outstanding creature design serve as a source of inspiration for various works of art, and models for 3D printing are not an exception. Being in awe of the parasitoid form of the species Xenomorph XX121 - the Facehugger - our contributing 3D artist spent circa 135 hours to recreate the terrifying alien for your collection. The Facehugger model for 3D printing captures the arthropod creature with utmost anatomical precision. Its iconic skeletal finger-like limbs are stretched out in an ominous threat of attack. The long digits are adorned with sharp claws the sheer strength of which must not be underestimated. Of course, the body of the Facehugger also features a pair of bag-like bladder structures, breathing flaps that usually serve to provide air for the Facehugger’s victim. The author of the model took his time to scrupulously craft the segmented tail of the parasite that resembles a spine and helps the alien stand upright for display. To create an installation as if straight from the movie screen, the Facehugger is depicted while coiled around the Ovomorph it emerged from. The Egg that used to nurture the Xenomorph has its canonical leathery appearance. The protruding venous system stretched underneath its skin makes the Ovomorph look even more realistic. The four fleshy “petals” are unfolded, signifying the birth of the monster. This impressively detailed Facehugger in Diorama for 3D printing will surely be after every AvP fans’ own heart. Feel free to give the creature some hugs, we guarantee it’s completely safe!

ADAPTATION FOR 3D PRINTING

Facehugger in Diorama figurine for 3D printing is a static assembly model and its moderation and adaptation for different types of 3D printers took Gambody team 47 hours in total. The anatomy of the Facehugger and the structure of the Egg were thoroughly reviewed during the moderation process for the Stage 1 Xenomorph to be depicted as realistic as possible. The model’s cutting was chosen by our team to minimize the amount of filament needed for generated support and some of the parts were hollowed out for you to save resin in the figurine’s Eco version. In order to conceal the places where the assembly parts of the model must be connected and for you to achieve the cleanest 3D printed result, each of the alien’s eight long, finger-like legs was carefully extracted from the main body. For the same purpose, the long tail of Facehugger was cut into seven parts along the contour of the spine segments. Due to the fact that the Ovomorph part of the diorama is not scaled, it was divided into four parts only for convenient printing. The cutting in all model’s versions was prepared in such a way for you to easily choose between the variants of the display - Facehugger can be displayed on its own; or on the platform either alone or with the decorative Egg. All the assembly parts come in STL files in recommended positions that were worked out in order to ensure the smoothness of the details’ surfaces after printing and so that the 3D printing beginners won't face difficulties when placing the parts on a build plate. When downloading any figurine's file you will also receive "Assembly Manual" for FFF/FDM 1.0 and DLP/SLA 1.0 versions in PDF format.

The figurine is saved in STL files, a format supported by most 3D printers. All STL files for 3D printing have been checked in Netfabb and no errors were shown.

The model's scale was calculated from the actual length of Facehugger which is 1500 mm. The 3D printing figurine's chosen scale is 1/2 for the FFF/FDM version and 1/4 for the DLP/SLA/SLS versions.

VERSIONS' SPECIFICATIONS

FFF/FDM 1.0 version features:
- Contains 28 parts;
- A printed model is 281 mm tall, 196 mm wide, 229 mm deep;
- Assembly kit includes locks to connect the model's parts securely without glue. Lock 24_ge_lock_10H(x5) needs to be printed 5 times; lock 25_ge_lock_7S(x7) needs to be printed 7 times;
- Facehugger can be displayed on its own; or on the platform either alone or with the decorative Egg;
- The platform comes in three variants - a split one to mount the Egg, a split + a solid one to display the Facehugger alone;
- The diorama's Egg is not scaled and serves a decorative purpose;
- All parts are divided in such a way that you will print them with the smallest number of support structures.

DLP/SLA 1.0 version features:
- Contains 9 parts;
- A printed model is 141 mm tall, 98 mm wide, 114 mm deep;
- Facehugger can be displayed on its own; or on the platform either alone or with the decorative Egg;
- The platform comes in two variants - one to mount the Egg and one to display the Facehugger alone;
- The diorama's Egg is not scaled and serves a decorative purpose;
- All parts are divided in such a way to fit the build plates and to ensure that support structures are generated where needed.

DLP/SLA Eco 1.0 version features:
- Contains 9 parts;
- A printed model is 141 mm tall, 98 mm wide, 114 mm deep;
- Facehugger can be displayed on its own; or on the platform either alone or with the decorative Egg;
- The platform comes in two variants - one to mount the Egg and one to display the Facehugger alone;
- The diorama's Egg is not scaled and serves a decorative purpose;
- Contains some hollowed out parts to save resin.

SLS 1.0 version features:
- Made as a solid one-piece figurine;
- A printed model is 141 mm tall, 98 mm wide, 114 mm deep;
- The diorama's Egg is not scaled and serves a decorative purpose;
- Contains 6 parts - Facehugger + Egg both mounted on a platform, Facehugger on a platform, Facehugger and Egg both separated, two variants of the platform.
