ABOUT THIS 3D MODEL

“Unsure which Mech best suits you?… This is an excellent choice!”

The wide variety of stars within MechWarrior Online universe allows to place no limits on the growth of Gambody’s 3D printing MWO category. We are excited to welcome Centurion, the classic example of a true Medium Mech, to serve on the frontlines of the 3D printing community!

Our contributing 3D artist who has been long fascinated by the Battletech world mentioned choosing for his project the particular CN9-A build of the Centurion due to its legendary status and fine reputation. The bulky Mech for 3D printing carries a loadout of weapons, sporting a massive autocannon in its right arm, an LRM 10 in the left torso and two medium lasers in its centre torso. By spreading the hardpoints across several locations, Centurion embodies an excellent general-purpose Medium Mech which looks like a must for your 3D printed Mechs’ army!

ADAPTATION FOR 3D PRINTING

MWO Centurion 3D printing model is an active assembly model and its moderation and adaptation for different types of 3D printers took Gambody team 32 hours in total.

For you to receive the cleanest 3D printing result possible and to minimize the amount of filament needed for generated support the Mech model was divided into many assembly parts, and special mechanisms were introduced into all model’s movable elements to give you an opportunity to display Centurion in a variety of positions and scenes.

All assembly parts are provided in STL files of the FFF/FDM version in recommended positions that were worked out in order to ensure the smoothness of the details’ surfaces after printing and that the 3D printing beginners won't face difficulties when placing the parts on a build plate. When downloading any model's file you will also receive "Assembly Manual" for FFF/FDM 1.0 and DLP/SLA/SLS 1.0 versions in PDF format. We highly recommend that you get acquainted with the “Assembly video” and "Assembly Manual" before getting down to the MWO Centurion model.

The model is saved in STL files, a format supported by most 3D printers. All STL files for 3D printing have been checked in Netfabb and no errors were shown.

The model's scale was calculated from the height of the MWO Centurion which is 14700 mm. The 3D printing model's chosen scale is 1:60 for the FFF/FDM version and 1:100 for the DLP/SLA/SLS version.

VERSIONS' SPECIFICATIONS

FFF/FDM 1.0 version features:
- Contains 59 parts;
- A printed model is 245 mm tall, 186 mm wide, 135 mm deep;
- The 3D printing Centurion Mech comes with a cockpit;
Two variants of the Mech’s head - a solid one and an “empty” head to install a cockpit;
Adjustable grip connector in Mech’s shoulders allows free back and forth movement + minor up and down motion;
Left elbow bends via a ratchet mechanism;
Two variants of the Mech’s left hand - with static and active fingers. Each Mech’s finger in the active hand bends via two phalanges;
- The assembly of Mech’s fingers in the active hand variant requires additional “pins”. These pins do not come in STL files but can be made out of short pieces of regular 1.75mm filament;
Upper body pivots up to the stop via the articulated ratchet mechanism in the machine’s waist;
Adjustable grip connector in Mech’s hip joints allows free back and forth movement + minor up and down motion;
Knees bend via a ratchet mechanism;
Adjustable grip connector in Mech’s feet allows free back and forth movement + minor left and right motion;
- Weapons that the Centurion is equipped with are assembled in such a way that can be potentially replaced when the alternative Guns Pack for the Mech is released;
- All parts are divided in such a way that you will print them with the smallest number of support structures and so to ensure the smoothness of the details’ surfaces.

DLP/SLA/SLS 1.0 version features:
- Contains 17 parts;
- A printed model is 147 mm tall, 112 mm wide, 81 mm deep;
- The 3D printing Centurion Mech comes with a cockpit;
Two variants of the Mech’s head - a solid one and an “empty” head to install a cockpit;
- Made with articulated shoulder, waist, hip and foot joints (the mechanism is simplified as compared with FFF/FDM 1.0);
Weapons that the Centurion is equipped with are assembled in such a way that can be potentially replaced when the alternative Guns Pack for the Mech is released;
- All parts are divided in such a way to fit the build plates and to ensure that support structures are generated where needed.

FAQ:

Where can I print a model if I have no printer?
How to get started with 3D printing?
How to set up my 3D printer?
How to choose right 3D model print bed positioning?
How to paint printed figurine?

Below you can find printing recommendations for CuraSimplify3D and Slic3r software.

Cura printing recommendations:

These are basic settings that were tested in Cura 4.8.0 slicer.

The test models were printed on Ultimaker 2, Creality Ender 3, Creality CR-10S Pro V2, Anycubic I3 Mega, Anycubic I3 MegaS 3D printers with PLA and PETG filaments.

Disclaimer: The following printing settings are a recommendation, not an obligation. The parameters can vary depending on the peculiarities of your 3D printer, the material you use and especially the particular assembly part at hand. Each part that any model comprises often needs preliminary review and you are free to tweak the settings the way you find suitable.

Note:
- You can scale up the model (downscaling is not recommended!);
- All connectors should be printed at 100% Infill;
- For all parts of locks (“ge_lock” in “Source files”) you need to change "Brim" type to "Skirt" in Build Plate Adhesion section.
