ABOUT THIS 3D MODEL

Cats are usually considered to be gentle and domestic creatures, but not in the MechWarrior Online universe! The MWO Cats are fast, angry and powerful, always ready to strike the enemies from shadows in the most unexpected of moments. Shadow Cat is exactly one of such battle robots! Versatile and hardy, Shadow Cat is a medium Clan OmniMech produced with the help of the advanced weight-saving technology. The primary configuration of the Mech is armed with one CGauss and a pair of CERML's which make Shadow Cat capable of dealing much damage at medium- to long-range. Invisible thanks to its compact size, and nimble thanks to built-in MASC, six fixed Jump Jets and Extralight Fusion Engine, Shadow Cat can accelerate up to 120 km/hour and more! With all these technical specifications taken into consideration Shadow Cat clearly lives up to its name! The gracefulness and agility of the OmniMech have been masterly implemented into the design of Shadow Cat 3D printing model. Our contributing 3D artist spent circa 100 hours to prepare the 3D printing Mech known for its manoeuvrability and durability. The Shadow Cat for 3D printing wields a CGauss in his right arm, while a default hand actuator is built in the left arm. The Mech is fitted with a paned cockpit that even has a tiny pilot seat and a dashboard inside! The arms, as well as the rest of the OmniMech’s armament, is located at the Mech’s torso level which facilitates the firing from the sniping spot. The Shadow Cat is a popular OmniMech both with the Clan Nova Cat and the MWO fans all around the world. Print your very own Shadow Cat model and embark on action-packed battles!

ADAPTATION FOR 3D PRINTING

MWO Shadow Cat 3D printing model is an action assembly model and its moderation and adaptation for different types of 3D printers took Gambody team 25 hours in total. In order for you to receive the cleanest 3D printing result possible and to minimize the amount of filament needed for generated support, the Mech model was divided into many assembly parts. All parts are provided in STL files in recommended positions that were worked out in order to ensure the smoothness of the details’ surfaces after printing and to make sure that the 3D printing beginners won't face difficulties when placing the parts on a build plate. To allow the Shadow Cat’s multidirectional movement and steadiness of the joints, the usual ball-and-socket joints and one-axis joints with lockers were discarded. Instead, for the highly articulated Mech to stand firmly in any position you may choose there was a ratchet mechanism introduced into the model’s main joints (legspelvis, and “arms”). The joints that ensure the Mech's movability are provided as separate files for you to be able to print them again if the joints' friction happens to lose rigidity. A spot inside the Shadow Cat’s body (in FFF/FDM 1.0) allows to hide a battery inside the Mech’s head and introduce LED wiring to light up the cockpit. The CGauss and hand actuator that the Shadow Cat is equipped with are assembled in such a way that can be potentially replaced when the alternative Guns Pack for the Mech is released. When downloading any model's file you will also receive "Assembly Manual" for FFF/FDM 1.0 and DLP/SLA/SLS 1.0 versions in PDF format.

The model is saved in STL files, a format supported by most 3D printers. All STL files for 3D printing have been checked in Netfabb and no errors were shown.

The model's scale was calculated from the Shadow Cat's actual height that is 12000 mm. The 3D printing model's chosen scale is 1:60 for the FFF/FDM version and 1:100 for the DLP/SLA/SLS versions.

VERSIONS' SPECIFICATIONS

FFF/FDM 1.0 version features:
- Contains 51 parts;
- A printed model is 234 mm tall, 174 mm wide, 117 mm deep;
- Assembly kit includes locks to connect the parts securely without glue. The lock 49_Ge_lock_10H_x7 needs to be printed 7 times;
- Made with several sets of special joints to ensure the model's articulation (ankleknee, hip, pelvis and shoulder joints are movable). These joints can hold any position you may choose;
- The first 3D printing Mech to feature a cockpit!;
- The windows of the cockpit are provided separately and can be printed with transparent filament;
- There is an option to introduce LED wiring throughout Mech's partially hollow body in order to light up the cockpit;
- It is highly recommended that you watch "Assembly video" in the photo preview section and read "Assembly Manual" in PDF before assembling the Shadow Cat;
- All parts are divided in such a way that you will print them with the smallest number of support structures and so to ensure the smoothness of the details’ surfaces.

DLP/SLA/SLS 1.0 version features:
- Contains 26 parts;
- A printed model is 140 mm tall, 104 mm wide, 70 mm deep;
- Made with several sets of special joints to ensure the model's articulation (simplified as compared with FFF/FDM 1.0) that can hold any position you may choose;
- The first 3D printing Mech to feature a cockpit!;
- The windows of the cockpit are provided separately and can be printed with transparent material;
- It is highly recommended that you watch "Assembly video" in the photo preview section and read "Assembly Manual" in PDF before assembling the Shadow Cat;
- All parts are divided in such a way to fit the build plates and to ensure that support structures are generated where needed.

FAQ:

Where can I print a model if I have no printer?
How to get started with 3D printing?
How to set up my 3D printer?
How to choose right 3D model print bed positioning?
How to paint printed figurine?

Below you can find printing recommendations for CuraSimplify3D and Slic3r software.

Cura printing recommendations:

These are basic settings that were tested in Cura 4.8.0 slicer.

The test models were printed on Ultimaker 2, Creality Ender 3, Creality CR-10S Pro V2, Anycubic I3 Mega, Anycubic I3 MegaS 3D printers with PLA and PETG filaments.

Disclaimer: The following printing settings are a recommendation, not an obligation. The parameters can vary depending on the peculiarities of your 3D printer, the material you use and especially the particular assembly part at hand. Each part that any model comprises often needs preliminary review and you are free to tweak the settings the way you find suitable.

Note:
- You can scale up the model (downscaling is not recommended!);
- All connectors should be printed at 100% Infill;
- For all parts of locks (“ge_lock” in “Source files”) you need to change "Brim" type to "Skirt" in Build Plate Adhesion section.
