Printing Details

This 3D model consists of files in StereoLithography (.Stl) format that have been optimized for 3D printing.

Before printing the files, we strongly recommend reading the PRINTING DETAILS section.

Version 2 and Version 3 are the new files for MWO King Crab 3D Model optimized for 3D printing, the preview pictures of which you see above.

It is recommended:

  • Version 1 STL files on FDM/FFF 3D printers - old version with old joints;
  • Version 2 STL files on FDM/FFF 3D printers - new version with new scale and new joints;
  • Version 3 STL files on DLP/SLA/SLS 3D printers - new version with new scale and new joints.

King Crab 3D model is inspired by the video game Mech. 

This BattleMech was designed at the request of General Aleksandr Kerensky. Featuring crab-like arms, the Mech is capable of stripping the armor off of any Mech. King Crab is considered one of the best close-range MechWarriors. His only disadvantage is that it cannot hold too much ammo and it easily becomes vulnerable to the enemy attacks when left without firepower.

King Crab Battlemech can be destroyed by heavy assault Mechs, but the latter will suffer damage in the process.

The 3D printing model features the Autocannon on each of its arms. The claw-shaped actuators make reference to the real crab’s pinchers. 

King Crab 3D model is created in Autodesk Maya. The model features a lot of impressive details and an intricate surface shell. The files are converted to STL format and can be easily handled in any slicing program. The model is made solid to facilitate its printing on any type of 3D printer.

All the files have been checked and corrected in Netfabb. 

The model consists of 27 separate parts. After being 3D printed the model will stand 180 mm wide, 250 mm tall, and 168 mm deep. It has hinged joints which increase its workability.

On 28.03.2018 new version of joints have been added.


Now, the MWO King Crab 3D Model is available in two scale: 1/60 for Version 2 (FDM/FFF) and 1/100 for Version 3 (DLP/SLA/SLS).

There are 28 parts in Version 2 (FDM/FFF) and 14 parts for Version 3 (DLP/SLA/SLS).

Was added parts pf Locks and Connectors for better fixing.

- One part of Lock(20_Ge_lock_7S_x4) you need to print 4 times.
- One part of Connector(7_Ge_Connector_A_A_x2) you need to print twice.
- One part of Claw(11_B_Claw_x9) you nned to print 9 times.
- One part of Joint(24_Axis_1_B_Joint_x2) you need to print twice.
- One part of Joint(10_Axis_2_B_Joint_x7) you need to print 7 times.

Version 2 (FDM/FFF):
- Is 1:60 scale and after being printed will stand 250 mm tall, 211 mm wide, 180 mm deep;
- Made with new joints;
- All movable elements of the Mech were saved.

Version 3 (DLP/SLA/SLS):
- Is 1:100 scale and will stand 150 mm tall, 106 mm wide, 90 mm deep;
- Made with new joints;
- All movable elements of the Mech were saved;
- Has as few details as possible to keep printing costs down.

With new joints from Version 2 and Version 3 you will get next advantages:
1. Increases frictional force;
2. Possible to up scale or down scale the whole model;
3. Printable from any type of material;
4. Higher strength;
5. Material shrinkage does not affect at strength and friction.

This model was tested in Cura 3.2.1 and printed on an Ultimaker 2 in PLA material.


- You can print new joints from Version 2 and Version 3 with 20-30% infill.
- With the new joints from Version 2 and Version 3 you can up scale or down scale the whole model.

- Connectors should be printed at 100% infill.

- For all parts of Locks you need to change "Brim" type to "Skirt" in Build Plate Adhesion section.
