ABOUT THIS 3D MODEL

"We come in peace!"

Mars Attacks! is a 1996 anti-blockbuster masterpiece that vividly demonstrates the chaotic scenario of the possible alien invasion of Earth by Martians. The large-brained devilish little Martians arrive in Nevada on their Flying Saucer and almost instantly get down to conquering the nice planet by brutally murdering the movie’s all-star cast.

Thanks to the effort of our talented contributing 3D artist, the armed Martian figurine from Gambody's catalogue finally receives its very own Flying Saucer! The Martian Flying Saucer for 3D printing has the recognisable appearance of UFOs portrayed throughout media. However, with the efforts of the author of the model and Gambody’s team, the Martian’s craft now boasts some brilliant features you are about to witness!

ADAPTATION FOR 3D PRINTING

Martian Flying Saucer for 3D printing is an active assembly model and its moderation and adaptation for different types of 3D printers took the Gambody team 40 hours in total. For your 3D printed UFO to boast unexpected articulation, our team introduced special mechanisms inside the Saucer and provided means for your Martian craft to be displayed in several scenarios.

All assembly parts are provided in STL files in recommended positions that were worked out in order to ensure the smoothness of the details’ surfaces after printing and that the 3D printing beginners won't face difficulties when placing the parts on a build plate. When downloading any model's file you will also receive "Assembly Manual" for FFF/FDM 1.0 and DLP/SLA/SLS 1.0 versions in PDF format. We highly recommend that you get acquainted with the “Assembly video” and "Assembly Manual" before getting down to the Martian Flying Saucer model.

The model is saved in STL files, a format supported by most 3D printers. All STL files for 3D printing have been checked in Netfabb and no errors were shown.

The model's scale was calculated from the approximate diameter of the Mars Attacks! Flying Saucer which is 52000 mm. The 3D printing model's chosen scale is 1:200 for the FFF/FDM version and 1:400 for the DLP/SLA/SLS version.

VERSIONS' SPECIFICATIONS

FFF/FDM 1.0 version features:
- Contains 52 parts;
- A printed model is 129 mm tall, 255 mm wide, 264 mm deep;
- The assembly kit includes lock 52_Ge_lock_10H_x32 to attach the model's parts securely without glue that needs to be printed 32 times;
- There are two variants of hulls to choose from - with smooth surface and covered with patterns;
- You may choose to print either solid or split version of hulls depending on the dimensions of your 3D printer's build plate;
- Assemble the Saucer with the landing gear or hang it "closed" by concealing the landing gear slots with special caps;
- You may display the model with an extended ladder or you may conceal its slot with a special cap;
- There is a mechanism inside the Saucer that allows simultaneous rotation of the hulls in the opposite directions (rotate the upper hull to see the bottom one rotate simultaneously in the opposite direction);
- The assembly kit includes a special key for your convenient synchronised rotation of both hulls via the bottom hatch;
- Rotation of the bottom rim opens and closes the hatch similarly to the mechanism of an iris diaphragm;
- The assembly of "iris blades" requires additional “pins” that do not come in STL files but can be made out of short pieces of regular 1.75 PLA;
- There are two radars to choose from - a short and a longer one (depends on your display choice - with or without landing gear);
- The assembly kit includes a two-part "button". If you choose to install a motor inside the Saucer, remove the inner part of the button and use the outer part as a cap to activate the motor mechanism;
- All parts are divided in such a way that you will print them with the smallest number of support structures.

DLP/SLA 1.0 version features:
- Contains 13 parts;
- A printed model is 64 mm tall, 127 mm wide, 132 mm deep;
- Comprises only one patterned variant of hulls;
- Assemble the Saucer with the landing gear or hang it "closed" by concealing the landing gear slots with special caps;
- You may display the model with an extended ladder or you may conceal its slot with a special cap;
- There are two radars to choose from - a short and a longer one (depends on your display choice - with or without landing gear);
- All parts are divided in such a way to fit the build plates and to ensure that support structures are generated where needed.

Below you can find printing recommendations for CuraSimplify3D and Slic3r software.

Cura printing recommendations:

These are basic settings that were tested in Cura 4.8.0 slicer.

The test models were printed on Ultimaker 2, Creality Ender 3, Creality CR-10S Pro V2, Anycubic I3 Mega, Anycubic I3 MegaS 3D printers with PLA and PETG filaments.

Disclaimer: The following printing settings are a recommendation, not an obligation. The parameters can vary depending on the peculiarities of your 3D printer, the material you use and especially the particular assembly part at hand. Each part that any model comprises often needs preliminary review and you are free to tweak the settings the way you find suitable.

Note:
- You can scale up the model (downscaling is not recommended!);
- All connectors should be printed at 100% Infill;
- For all parts of locks (“ge_lock” in “Source files”) you need to change "Brim" type to "Skirt" in Build Plate Adhesion section.
