ABOUT THIS 3D MODEL

M12B Force Application Vehicle, colloquially known as Warthog, or simply Hog, is an all-wheel-drive all-terrain vehicle that served on the frontlines of an interstellar war between humanity and alien Covenant. Although M12B FAV is one of many design variants of the Warthog, it still is an extremely multi-purpose vehicle that is adaptable to almost any situation, capable of going over any obstacle, and can even run on pure water!

The 3D printing model of Warthog M12B incorporates most of the vehicle’s fascinating features so well-liked by the fans of the Halo franchise. The author of the fantastic model spent many hours studying, modelling and engineering the workhorse of UNSC Armed Forces’ mechanised infantry and the result is totally worth all efforts! By the way, there is the 3D printing Master Chief to operate your future 3D printed Hog!

ADAPTATION FOR 3D PRINTING

Warthog M12B for 3D printing is a highly detailed action assembly model and its moderation and adaptation for different types of 3D printers took the Gambody team 120 hours in total.

In order to preserve the accurate likeness of the fictional Warthog M12B all-wheel-drive vehicle, the model was divided into many parts that are to be assembled as if a real car. Taking into account the willingness of our customers to make their 3D printing projects as true to life as possible, Gambody team worked on the highly-articulated assembly of the vehicle that presupposes active suspension and a variety of movable elements.

Thus, various special mechanisms were introduced into the model to make sure that the parts comprising the suspension, as well as the details of the frame and the car body, are both authentic and highly functional (please, see "Versions' specifications", "Assembly video" and photo preview slider).

The cutting of the model was chosen to ensure the cleanest 3D printing result possible and to minimize the amount of material needed to print the generated support. All assembly parts are provided in STL files of FFF/FDM version in recommended positions that were worked out in order to ensure the smoothness of the details’ surfaces after printing and so that the 3D printing beginners won't face difficulties when placing the parts on a build plate. We highly recommend that you get acquainted with the “Assembly video” and "Assembly Manual" before getting down to the Warthog M12B model.

The model is saved in STL files, a format supported by most 3D printers. All STL files for 3D printing have been checked in Netfabb and no errors were shown.

The model's scale was calculated from the length of the Warthog M12B which is 6300 mm. The 3D printing model's chosen scale is 1:16 for the FFF/FDM version and 1:32 for the DLP/SLA/SLS version.

VERSIONS' SPECIFICATIONS

FFF/FDM 1.0 version features:
- Contains 127 parts;
- A printed model is 222 mm tall, 189 mm wide, 394 mm deep;
- There are many assembly parts that need to be printed multiple times - the number of required copies (x5, x20 etc.) is indicated in the title of the file in “Source files” tab, e.g. file "_2_wheel_tire_x4" needs to be printed 4 times;

Suspension and wheels:
- There are rotating gear bearings in all Warthog's wheels;
Wheel tyres can be printed either with plastic filament or with flexible material;
- Warthog boasts a highly realistic complex active suspension of the front and rear axles;
- The wheels are equipped with a complex mechanism of shock-absorbers and stabilisers;
- The assembly of the shock-absorbers requires 4 regular ball pen springs and additional "pins" that can be made out of short pieces of regular 1.75mm filament;
- Rotation of the steering wheel drives the gears and the pivot that ensure simultaneous movement of both front and rear wheels;
- Warthog is equipped with opposite direction 4-wheel steering (4WS) system;

Car body:
- Model's tailgate and rear toolbox open;
M41 Vulcan chain gun moves vertically via a ratchet and rotates 360°;
- The M12B FAV boasts a highly detailed interior and intricate engine under the hood;
- Covers on the sides of the vehicle can be removed to access empty utility slots;
- Rear tow hooks can be articulated via 1.75mm filament "pins";
- You may wind wire, thread, filament, etc., and fasten a tow hook at the front of the vehicle;
- The vehicle's windshield and headlights are provided separately to be printed with the transparent material;
- You can light up the model's headlightsLED wiring can be easily installed throughout the body of the vehicle, while the battery can be hidden behind the highly detailed engine;
- All parts are divided in such a way that you will print them with the smallest number of support structures.

DLP/SLA 1.0 version features:
- Contains 54 parts;
- A printed model is 111 mm tall, 95 mm wide, 197 mm deep;
- Warthog boasts a highly static suspension of the front and rear axles;
- All Warthog's wheels can rotate;
- Model's tailgate and rear toolbox open;

Below you can find printing recommendations for CuraSimplify3D and Slic3r software.

Cura printing recommendations:

These are basic settings that were tested in Cura 4.8.0 slicer.

The test models were printed on Ultimaker 2, Creality Ender 3, Creality CR-10S Pro V2, Anycubic I3 Mega, Anycubic I3 MegaS 3D printers with PLA and PETG filaments.

Disclaimer: The following printing settings are a recommendation, not an obligation. The parameters can vary depending on the peculiarities of your 3D printer, the material you use and especially the particular assembly part at hand. Each part that any model comprises often needs preliminary review and you are free to tweak the settings the way you find suitable.

Note:
- You can scale up the model (downscaling is not recommended!);
- All connectors should be printed at 100% Infill;
