ABOUT THIS 3D MODEL

Envisioned as an anti-vehicle/anti-personnel appliance for military use, the remote-controlled MOOSE is an intimidating machine built to destroy. In Neill Blomkamp’s dystopian sci-fi action film CHAPPiE (2015), the MOOSE is a heavily armed mech, originally engineered as a Police Force aid. MOOSE’s engineer Vincent Moore is competing with autonomous androids CHAPPiE within the weapon manufacturer company Tetravaal for a chance to join the Police Force. While many versions and variants of the MOOSE were made, each with its own specific purpose, this version of the MOOSE has been designed with 3D printing in mind.

Our contributing 3D artist dedicated a lot of time and effort to the creation of the MOOSE Mech for 3D printing! The model boasts a spectacular level of detail, the heavy armament that the mech carries and an imposing image so masterly conveyed by the author of the model. One look at the MOOSE is enough to know that this mech will look grandiose in your collection!

ADAPTATION FOR 3D PRINTING

MOOSE Mech for 3D printing is an active assembly model and its moderation and adaptation for different types of 3D printers took the Gambody team 45 hours in total.

For you to receive the cleanest 3D printing result possible and to minimize the amount of filament needed for generated support the intimidating machine model was divided into many assembly parts, and special mechanisms were introduced into most model’s movable elements to give you an opportunity to display MOOSE in a variety of positions and scenes.

All assembly parts are provided in STL files in recommended positions that were worked out in order to ensure the smoothness of the details’ surfaces after printing and that the 3D printing beginners won't face difficulties when placing the parts on a build plate. When downloading any model's file you will also receive "Assembly Manual" for FFF/FDM 1.0 and DLP/SLA 1.0 versions in PDF format. We highly recommend that you get acquainted with the “Assembly video” and "Assembly Manual" before getting down to the MOOSE Mech model.

The model is saved in STL files, a format supported by most 3D printers. All STL files for 3D printing have been checked in Netfabb and no errors were shown.

The model’s scale was calculated from the approximate height of the MOOSE (without minigun) which is 2700 mm. The 3D printing model’s chosen scale is 1:8 for the FFF/FDM version and 1:16 for the DLP/SLA version.

VERSIONS' SPECIFICATIONS

FFF/FDM 1.0 version features:
- Contains 112 parts;
- A printed model stands 398 mm tall, 345 mm wide, 453 mm deep;
- Arm attachments are articulated + pincer and grinder on the left arm attachment rotate;
Shoulder mounts are articulated via ratchet mechanisms inside both shoulder connectors;
Laser weapon on the left shoulder mount is articulated;
- To rotate the drum-fed minigun, you need to remove the feed strip;
- There are adjustable grip connectors inside hip joints with a decorative cover that allow multidirectional leg movement;
- You can add real cable pieces to your mech. Assembly part #33 from the FDM version will help you fasten the cables, but they are not obligatory for the MOOSE Mech’s assembly;
- Assembly of the articulated elements in the FDM version requires additional “pins” that do not come in STL files but can be made out of short pieces of regular 1.75mm filament;
- All parts are divided in such a way that you will print them with the smallest number of support structures.

DLP/SLA 1.0 version features:
- Contains 55 parts;
- A printed model stands 199 mm tall, 173 mm wide, 226 mm deep;
Arm attachments are articulated;
Shoulder mounts are articulated via ratchet mechanisms inside both shoulder connectors;
- To rotate the drum-fed minigun, you need to remove the feed strip;
- You can add real cable pieces to your mech. Assembly part #11 from the SLA version will help you fasten the cables, but they are not obligatory for the MOOSE Mech’s assembly;
- Assembly of the articulated elements in the SLA version requires additional “pins” that do not come in STL files but can be made out of short pieces of a regular paper clip;
- All parts are divided in such a way to fit the build plates and to ensure that support structures are generated where needed.

You can get the model of MOOSE Mech for 3D Printing immediately after the purchase! Just click the green Buy button in the top-right corner of the model’s page. You can pay with PayPal or your credit card.

FAQ:

Where can I print a model if I have no printer?
How to get started with 3D printing?
How to set up my 3D printer?
How to choose right 3D model print bed positioning?
How to paint printed figurine?

Below you can find printing recommendations for CuraSimplify3DSlic3r and PrusaSlicer software.

Cura printing recommendations:

These are basic settings that were tested in Cura 4.8.0 slicer.

The test models were printed on Ultimaker 2, Creality Ender 3, Creality CR-10S Pro V2, Anycubic I3 Mega, Anycubic I3 MegaS 3D printers with PLA and PETG filaments.

Disclaimer: The following printing settings are a recommendation, not an obligation. The parameters can vary depending on the peculiarities of your 3D printer, the material you use and especially the particular assembly part at hand. Each part that any model comprises often needs preliminary review and you are free to tweak the settings the way you find suitable.

Note:
- You can scale up the model (downscaling is not recommended!);
- All connectors should be printed at 100% Infill;
- For all parts of locks (“ge_lock” in “Source files”) you need to change "Brim" type to "Skirt" in Build Plate Adhesion section.

Slic3r printing recommendations:

These basic 3D printing settings recommendations for beginners were tested in Slic3r 1.3.0 software. Test models were printed on Ultimaker 2, Creality Ender 3, Creality Cr-10S pro v2, Anycubic I3 Mega, Anycubic I3 MegaS, Anycubic Viper with PLA and PetG filaments.

Note:

- You can upscale your 3D printing models. Downscaling is not recommended - it can make smaller parts of the model unprintable, distort the model’s level of detail and result in assembly issues.
- All connectors should be printed at 100% Infill.
- When printing Lock connectors, we recommend setting the “Brim width” parameter to 0 in the "Skirt and Brim" print settings. In that way, the Locks will be 3D printed with a Skirt only.

As for the First layer, you can set it to 150% of the diameter of your nozzle for better adhesion to the build plate (for a nozzle with a diameter of 0.4 mm, the First layer extrusion width can be from 0.3 mm to 0.5 mm)
